MEET BEX

Bex is a one-of-a-kind photographer, that specializes in aquatics and portraiture. For years she has worked as a creative in the swim industry–helping brands visually and vocally tell their story. As a lifelong swimmer and former collegiate athlete, Bex’s understanding and knowledge of the sport helps her capture real moments–above and below the surface.

The connection and passion she has with people is truly reflected in her work. As she’s worked with numerous Olympic and Elite athletes, brands, and publications–her style and communication at a photo shoot makes everyone feel comfortable and at home. Resulting in timeless imagery that is authentic, bright, intimate, playful, unique, epic, and unlike any other swim photographer out there.

RIGHT.

I love connecting, creating and storytelling.

Ever since I was a lil’ Bex, I’ve always been passionate about the endless stories that surround me: ones I get to capture, be a part of, create, learn from, build, and connect with. My curiosity and thrive for exploring the way we live and communicate has made–and continues to make–my creative journey a wild and adventurous ride. I’ve been many things in the world of art, from musician, to actress, playwright, graphic designer, photographer, bartender, videographer, and creative director.

Currently, I mainly specialize in the photo and video in the world of water (as you’ve probably gathered already browsing through my portfolio). But even with that as my main focus, I still fuel all these pieces of my heart and embrace whatever challenge I can get my hands on.

SO.

(water) PHOTOGRAPHER.

Bouncing around water with a camera, is my jam. I’ve been a professional creative and lifelong swimmer for 15+ years, and my true speciality is illustrating the sport of swimming–in and out of the water. I can quickly get a feel for each swimmer’s aquatic signature in the water, which allows me to capture movement in my own precise and unique way. In the end though, I’m all about having a good time. And getting creative with swimmers to capture the sport and their personality in a fun way, is one of my favorite things to explore.

Oh, and other stuff i am:

GRAPHIC DESIGNER.

My area of expertise is in print design–with quite the history in layout design for: catalogs, magazines, ads, and other forms of marketing collateral. Though print and layout an area of focus for me, I also do: branding/visual identity design work (such as logo design, brand guidelines, etc.), packaging design, and web-based work. And last but not least, I’m also a frequent doodler (or more professionally put: illustrator) that loves to explore the moments in our lives…with whimsical cartoons. Animals often included.

WRITER.

My truest background behind all the creative functions come from my love of words. Obsessed from an early age of the workings of our hearts and minds, I started off with song and lyrical writing, that quickly took off into playwriting, short stories, proses, poems, and novels. I now also use this strength to help brands vocalize their stories. Whether that may be, helping them create pieces that reflect their mission and vision, explorations of the services they provide and/or sell, or guest entries from a creative in the industry.

Bar De Bex: My other website that’s all about the cocktail world! Bar De Bex is my drink blog, and creative service platform for the beverage industry. Here, I share cocktail recipes, educational pieces about the world of libations, gift guides, and also work I’ve done with brands to better their visual and vocal storytelling. (IG: @bardebex)

CRAFTSWOMAN.

I often step away from my camera and computer to unplug and work with my hands in a new way. A lot time while I’m crafting, I’ve found great ideas and/or solutions to problems I have. And when I say crafting, I’m primarily referring to making tiny clay creations! I’ve been in love with tiny things for as long as I can remember. So, making my own tiny pots, animals, animal pots, and other figures, only feels right. These can be found at @bexandcrafts and in my Etsy store–where you can get your own Bex creation, and/or a custom piece.

ME?

well, here’s some Other random facts.

I’m nestled in quirky little beach town of Santa Cruz, CA–though I’m often traveling all over to wherever the gigs take me. And I’m just a kickass chica exploring all things in this creative world that I possibly can. Most have been noted above, as far as all the things that I do. So other than my random assortments of crafts, I love spending time with my man, my dogs, family, and friends. I’m crazy active, and always moving my body (generally swimming or crossfit), exploring delicious food and beverages, and but of course, enjoying movies and live theater. I love stupid jokes. I collect coasters and tiny trinkets.

And I’m often found singing throughout the day.
